If you’ve spent years being called “scattered,” “lazy,” or “too much,” it can be hard to separate who you are from what ADHD has made harder. Maybe you’ve spent so long compensating, masking, or simply pushing through that you’re not even sure what’s ADHD and what’s just exhaustion from trying to keep up with a world that wasn’t built for how your brain works.
ADHD is not a character flaw, a motivation problem, or something you should have “grown out of” by now. It’s a legitimate, well-researched neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, impulse control, and executive function — the mental skills that help with planning, organizing, and following through.
At Chrysallís Wellness Center, we help children, teens, and adults understand their ADHD, build systems and strategies that actually work with their brain instead of against it, and, when appropriate, explore medication options that can bring real, meaningful relief.
For medical or mental health emergencies, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room right away.

Recognizing ADHD
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) shows up differently from person to person, but common signs include:
- Difficulty sustaining attention on tasks, conversations, or reading
- Trouble organizing tasks, managing time, or meeting deadlines
- Losing or misplacing items frequently
- Becoming easily distracted by unrelated thoughts or stimuli
- Restlessness, fidgeting, or feeling internally "on the go"
- Impulsivity (interrupting others, making quick decisions without thinking them through)
- Forgetfulness in daily activities
- Difficulty following through on instructions or finishing tasks
ADHD can present as primarily inattentive, primarily hyperactive-impulsive, or a combination of both, and it often looks quite different in children than it does in teens and adults.
Adult ADHD: Often Missed, Never Too Late
Adult ADHD is significantly underdiagnosed, in part because hyperactivity — the symptom most people associate with ADHD — tends to fade with age, while inattention, disorganization, and emotional dysregulation often become more prominent instead.
Many adults, especially women, were never evaluated as children because their symptoms looked more like daydreaming, anxiety, or “just being a bit disorganized” rather than the stereotypical hyperactive presentation.
In adulthood, ADHD often shows up as:
- Chronic difficulty managing time, deadlines, or a household
- "Time blindness" — consistently underestimating how long tasks will take
- Emotional reactivity or difficulty regulating frustration
- A pattern of unfinished projects or job changes
- Feeling overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities that seem to come easily to others
- Relationship strain caused by forgetfulness, distraction, or impulsivity
- Years of masking or overcompensating, often leading to burnout
It is never too late to be evaluated. Many adults find that finally understanding their ADHD — rather than a lifetime of “why can’t I just get it together” — is the first real relief they’ve felt. Treatment for adult ADHD often combines therapy focused on executive-function strategies with medication management tailored to an adult’s lifestyle, work demands, and any co-occurring anxiety or depression.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, absolutely. Many adults are diagnosed later in life, often after years of attributing their struggles to personality or lack of discipline. It’s never too late to get evaluated.
Diagnosis involves a clinical evaluation that looks at your history, symptoms, and how they impact daily functioning, not a single test or checklist.
Yes. Every service, from therapy to telehealth, is handled in a manner consistent with HIPAA and our own confidentiality standards.
