No one quite prepares you for how heavy the days after having a baby can feel. Maybe you expected exhaustion, but not this quiet dread that creeps in even while you’re holding the baby you love. Maybe you find yourself crying for no clear reason, feeling irritated by things that never used to bother you, or wondering if you’re bonding with your baby the way you’re “supposed” to. Maybe you feel like you’re failing at something everyone else seems to make look easy.
None of that means you’re a bad parent. Postpartum depression (PPD) is a real, common, and highly treatable medical condition, not a reflection of how much you love your baby, and not something you can simply rest or will your way out of. Hormonal shifts, sleep deprivation, identity changes, and the sheer weight of a new role all play a role, and none of it is your fault.
At Chrysallís Wellness Center, we help new parents move through this season with compassionate, judgment-free care, so you can start feeling like yourself again, and start enjoying the connection with your baby that you deserve.
For medical or mental health emergencies, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room right away. If you are having thoughts of harming yourself or your baby, this is a medical emergency — please call 911, go to the nearest emergency room, or call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) immediately.

Recognizing Postpartum Depression
PPD can begin anytime in the first year after childbirth, and it’s more than the short-lived “baby blues.” Common signs include:
- Persistent sadness, hopelessness, or feeling emotionally empty
- Frequent crying, often without a clear trigger
- Difficulty bonding with your baby, or feeling disconnected
- Overwhelming fatigue that goes beyond normal new-parent tiredness
- Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy
- Anxiety, panic, or racing, intrusive worries about your baby's safety
- Irritability, anger, or feeling easily overwhelmed
- Guilt, shame, or feeling like you're "failing" as a parent
- Withdrawing from your partner, family, or friends
- Changes in appetite or sleep beyond what's explained by caring for a newborn
If you’re experiencing any of this, please know it’s common. PPD affects a significant number of new parents, and it’s not something you have to push through alone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Baby blues are common in the first two weeks after birth and typically fade on their own. PPD lasts longer, feels more intense, and can interfere with your ability to function or bond with your baby. If it’s been more than two weeks and things aren’t improving, it’s worth reaching out.
For in-person visits, talk with our team when scheduling. Many parents find telehealth easier during the newborn stage, since you can meet with your provider from home.
Yes. Every service, from therapy to telehealth, is handled in a manner consistent with HIPAA and our own confidentiality standards.
